TrueFelt - 100% wool felt is here!
One of my plans when I opened the store was to eventually create a "Creature Corner" in the store. Basically, this section would contain everything necessary to make knit and crocheted stuffed animals, monsters, and other creatures.
We brought in our safety eyes a few weeks ago, and then our Lion Brand Bonbons
arrived. If you haven't seen them already, Bonbons are packages of 8 mini skeins o
f cotton, acrylic, or metallic yarn, perfect for creating little creatures, or for adding fun embellishments to larger projects.
This weekend we were finally able to bring in TrueFelt
, sheets of felt made from 100% wool. This heavy-weight felt is perfect for adding eyes, mouths, and other accessories to stuffed creatures - especially those that will eventually be given to babies or small children (even though safety eyes are a safer option than buttons, we still don't recommend using them on toys destined for little kids!).
Not sure how to use felt on your knit or crocheted stuffies? I present to you Wilma
, the 3-eyed travel companion of my good friend Claudia. Wilma's eyes, eye-patch, belt, mouth, gold tooth, and sword are all made from felt, and sewn on using a blanket stitch (you can view a tutorial here
). You don't have to use such an obvious stitch when sewing on your felt details, but it definitely adds a creative touch! :)
You can also use TrueFelt for other crafting projects. Its thick enough for sewing projects, and sturdy enough to be used for things like finger puppets or ornaments. Did you play with Fuzzy Felt
as a child? Playing with TrueFelt makes me want to make up my own set of felt silhouettes - all I need now is that flocked backing board to use as a backdrop!
