No PST on yarn! :)

If you are in BC while reading this, then I am sure you are aware that the province switched back to a PST+GST tax system as of April 1.  Under this system, many common household purchases are no longer subject to PST - the list includes food, books, magazines, and children's clothing.  The 5% GST applies to almost everything, but not the 7% of PST.

What you may not have heard is that -- thanks to a specific clause related to clothing -- fabrics, sewing threads, and yarn! are also exempt from PST.  In our store, this exemption will apply to yarn, felting fibre, TrueFelt squares, and sock darning thread.  The exemption does not apply to the tools used to work with these fibres - so needles, crochet hooks, bags, and accessories are all subject to both PST and GST.

In order to accommodate this new PST+GST system, we have had to make some adjustments to our website.  As you view our products online, you will see that our prices now include the GST

Customers shopping in our Vancouver store may not notice this "GST included" pricing system right away.  Although we have made the necessary adjustments in our computer system, we have opted to save a few trees and not re-label all our yarn!  As new products come in, we will label them with "GST included" price tags.  The result of this is that you may end up seeing two colours of the same brand of yarn, each with a different price.  Please don't hesitate to ask us to double check these differences, but chances are that one price will be exactly 5% more than the other, and that their prices will balance out once all applicable taxes have been included.
