FOs (Finished Objects)
Rellana Christmas Metallic Socks, Patons Kroy Sock in Muslin for toes, heels and cuffs.
Retrosaria Mondim Socks colourway 204 with toes and heels in puzzle tree yarns fingering minis “Jem and the Holograms” colourway.
WIPS (Works in Progress)
Mike’s Cowichan. I cut the bottom off, lengthened the ribbing and added a few rows of grey, then grafted it back together. I have finished the body now, and joined the shoulders - sleeves are next! Mike says you can’t see it yet because he hasn’t seen it yet. ;)
Sandalwood by Veera Valimaki. Made with Fleece Artist 2/8, a fingering weight BFL yarn. Messed up the sleeve increases, so will have to fudge it a bit to balance them out.
Last minute gift socks. Worsted weight yarn, 4mm DPNs. Made most of a sock in one evening.
Cowichan Along - I’m waiting for my 7mm interchangeable tip to arrive so I can accommodate the whole thing on a single cable/needle.
Rockhound by Dani Sunshine - toque for Jura - In Manos del Uruguay Alegria Grande Fondo del Mar colourway
Ease by Josee Paquin - I finished the body and then have now frogged it to do some additional shaping now that the test knit is over. It’s knit in Hemp for Knitting #220 Hempwol in colourway Florence.
Yarn Suggestions: CWM Sea Fusion or Softspun Lopi 3-Ply, Briggs & Little Country Roving, or similar.
Patterns: White buffalo-esque vintage patterns; Jane Richmond’s West Coast Cardigan; Andrea Rangel’s Dude Collection; anything from Sylvia Olsen’s book. If you want to go traditional, look for Priscilla Gibson-Roberts’ books Salish Sweaters (out of print) or the chapter on Cowichan-Style sweaters from Knitting in the Old Way, which was reprinted in 2005 (I have the kindle edition).
Projects need to have be less than 50% finished by Oct. 15th.
Entries are based on weight of the project:
1 to 250g (1/2 pound or less) - one entry
250g to 455g (½-1 pound) - two entries
More than 455g/1 pound - 3 entries
Bonus entry if you use Canadian Wool!
Cut off is January 15th at midnight.
New KALs for 2019!
We are going to set up a Challenge Bingo game. Stay tuned to Instagram and the Rav group, and we will post the game board. We will work out rules, prizes, etc., and talk about them in the next episode. It will be something that both knitters and crocheters participate in, so we will try to make it suit both - for example, the ‘crossover craft’ square will be learning or making something in knitting if you’re a crocheter or in crochet if you’re a knitter.
Yarnageddon: the store staff are going to go ‘Cold Sheep’ as of January 1st - All 4 of us are participating. No more buying yarn!
We can swap yarn - gram for gram - if we really need something, but no bringing in new yarn.
We will make up The Rules, and tell you what they are.
Buying yarn for work doesn’t count! ;) Store samples don’t count.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Wet Coast Wools!
