Intro to Weaving on the Rigid Heddle Loom

Want to learn how to weave tea-towels, scarves, and other items?

This 3-session class will teach you the basics of how to weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom. We will use the direct warping method to warp the loom, and then learn the basic techniques of creating fabric. The class will provide you with enough understanding to delve deeper into the topic on your own.

If you would like to use your own loom, please contact us in advance so can confirm whether it is suitable for this class.

Maximum 4 students per class.

Cost: $90

Dates & Time:

Wednesdays, August 14th, 21st, and 28th, 14th, and 21st, 2019, 6:30-8:30pm

Please note that the first session will run about 30 minutes longer than scheduled.

Materials required:

A rigid heddle loom, warping peg, and associated accessories. If you do not own a loom, you may rent one. The rental fee is $30, however, you will be requested to put down a damage/replacement deposit at the time of rental. This amount will be refunded once the loom and all associated pieces are returned in good working order.

We also recommend that you bring a roll of brown kraft paper (or some brown paper bags); 2 thick elastic bands (like the kind you get on broccoli and/or asparagus!); and the cardboard roll from inside a paper towel roll.

Cotton will be provided for the first project. You may wish to bring your own cotton or cotton blends to combine with this yarn.

In weeks 2 & 3 you will have time to experiment with your own projects - this is a great chance to use up some of your knitting stash! We will discuss ideas in class, and talk about which yarns are most suitable for weaving.
