Learn to Knit Socks

Knitting socks from the toe-up (as opposed to cuff-down) enables you to try on your socks as you go, and thereby make perfectly fitting socks. The addition of the 'afterthought heel' - inserted after you finish the rest of the sock - makes this a great first-time sock pattern. This construction is perfect for a first time sock knitter.

This method makes the most of self-striping and self-patterning sock yarns, because the sock does not interfere with the striping pattern of the yarn. The socks will be knit using two circular needles; you may also use Magic Loop or DPNs if you prefer.

Over three 2-hour sessions we will complete one adult sized sock. Students will be required to do knitting homework between classes. This class is intended for intermediate level knitters. Students must know how to cast-on and off, knit, purl, and work basic increases and decreases. Experience knitting in the round is highly recommended. Other necessary skills will be covered in class.

Maximum 4 students per class.
